are doing just about everything except rerelease the x ‘Safari’ properly, so this upcoming colourway may just have to do. Of course, the namesake texture is forever written into the history of the model and, in all fairness, it’d be too easy for the Swoosh to simply remake the first ever (official) collaboration of the AM1. So, there’s this Cobblestone/Worn Blue/Limestone edition to change things up a little while offering a familiar dose of nostalgia for old Airheads and a taste of the good ol’ days for newcomers (who likely for the ‘Waves’ over the ‘5th Anniversary’ pack…).
The similarities to the atmos OG go as far as the inclusion of Safari print on the mudguard and the mini Swoosh on the lateral side, plus the embroidered Swoosh on the heel in lieu of the Nike Air branding. That’s a pretty solid base to start off with, and the rest of the colourway does enough to make it its own. There are microfibre overlays on the mid panel and heel counter, while the toe box is all suede, rather than canvas as used on the 2002 ‘Safari’. This edition introduces another texture in the form of the nylon tongue in the style of the ‘Anniversary’ and more premium colourways, which, while befitting on paper, sort of clashes with the rougher surfaces of the rest of the upper.
