Nike are adding to their Air Max 1 greatest hits compilation with the first-ever reissue of the ‘Hemp’ edition from circa 2004. To distinguish the 2022 edition from the OG, the Swoosh have made some tasteful changes to ensure the ‘Hemp’ remains fresh.

Per its nickname, the distinguishing feature of this AM1 is its hemp fabric inserts on the toe box and ankle collar. While the 2004 version had a rougher texture reminiscent of a hessian sack, the retro edition features a smoother surface that is likely due to a finer thread count. Another unique touch of this pair is its crepe rubber sole used in place of the usual waffle tread, a substitution that has only been used a few times in the 18 years since the ‘Hemp’.

This incoming pair, as revealed by sneaker leaker @US_11, is a faithful update to the OG. The model has also benefitted from a tweaked silhouette since the 2017 ‘Anniversary’ editions, resulting in a sharper shape and balanced proportions. In fact, the only other change is that the tan upper and brown mudguards are a little more saturated than before.

Expect to see the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Hemp’ retro officially announced in the coming months.
