Air Max Day is on Sunday, and excitement is at an all-time high for the Air Max 1 ’Big Bubble’, which will see the legendary silhouette return to its 1986 shape. If you couldn’t already tell by the name, the ‘Big Bubble’ hosts a significantly larger Air unit, which was originally revised shortly after release in the 80s due to cracking. Slated to release on March 26, 2023, is the OG ‘University Red’ scheme, but now the ‘Royal’ has been revealed with the big bubble treatment.

The ‘Royal’ colourway, which was retroed in a full size run for the 2017 anniversary, was initially a women’s-exclusive colourway. This latest news comes straight from Stevey Ryder, aka @solelove1, who is one of Nike’s Masters of Air. This pair features all the same details as its ‘University Red’ cohort, with the revised shape and larger Air unit down below.

So far, Nike are yet to announce the Air Max 1 Big Bubble in ‘Royal Blue’, but It’s unlikely they would have totally reworked their AM1 just to release a single colourway, so this is what the ‘Royal’ OG would look like, according to Ryder. Could they be arriving in 2024? Take a closer look above and stay locked for further updates.
