Update June 16, 2022: The Nike ACG Mountain Fly Low SE 'Ironstone' will release on June 25 alongside its 'Canyon Purple' counterpart, available directly from Nike.

Nike ACG perform a difficult juggling act with their releases: they need to give the granola-y goodness that longtime ACG fans crave, but also need to push the envelope with materials and technology. (After all, Nike are so particular about their 'Better is Temporary' motto that they wrote a book about it!)

One of the finest examples of ACG walking that line is the Nathan Van Hook-designed Mountain Fly. It's appeared in high and low-top versions, comes unlined or bolstered with GORE-TEX and supplies a futuristic trail look that manages to retail some of the curiosity and playfulness that made ACG popular in the first place. The Mountain Fly Low SP, one of the newest Mountain Fly models, is set to return in a few new colourways this season, and one of them is the 'Ironstone.'

The 'Ironstone' doesn't boast the GORE-TEX lining employed on the Mountain Fly Low SP's last set of releases, but what it lacks in weatherproofing it more than makes up for in tone, texture and embellishment. A duo of brown shades are used on its synthetic upper, and the throat boasts a gridded pattern with geometric graphics and an 'Off the Grid' text hit. This assemblage is secured by a rope lacing system that's anchored on the toe cap, heel and midfoot, and dashes of purple give off a little ACG Air Mowabb flair. Down below, a rugged Trailframe outsole works with a running shoe-inspired React foam midsole that conceals an Air Zoom AlphaFly NEXT%-inspired nylon plate to provide comfort and support.

At the time of writing, a release date for the Nike ACG Mountain Fly Low SP 'Ironstone' has yet to be revealed, but it's likely to release in the coming weeks and will retail for $180.
