New Balance Wins Trademark Lawsuit Against New Barlun

Jordan Brand aren’t the only brand winning in the court of law. New Balance were just awarded $1.5 million in damages from Chinese sneaker company, New Barlun, whose trademark ‘N’ logo bears much more than a passing resemblance to the Boston brand’s original.

The Pudon New Area People’s Court in Shanghai ruled New Barlun’s logo perpetuated unfair competition and hurt New Balance’s brand image with shoddy products. In short, New Barlun is one entity in a small list of brands producing counterfeit New Balance products using a familiar trademark, even if there are slight tweaks.

In addition to the fine issued, New Barlun have also been asked to cease using their contraband logo. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. More details of the case can be read here.
