New Balance have announced the opening of another manufacturing factory in their home base of the US, located in Methuen, Massachusetts. This is the fifth local facility the heritage running brand have added to their production arm.

Cited by NB chairman Jim Davis as the ‘ factory of the future’ back in 2019 when the site was first purchased, the facility underwent a $20 million renovation and was fitted out with new machinery to ensure the ‘integration of lean manufacturing processes.’

‘We believe our commitment to domestic manufacturing drives innovation, capitalizes on consumer trends and provides new market opportunities,’ said New Balance chief operating officer, Dave Wheeler.

‘I’m proud to help welcome New Balance to Methuen where the company will continue its long history of producing products that are Made in America and help spur economic growth across our entire region,’ said MA congresswoman Lori Trahan.

The New Balance Foundation also donated $100,000 to the local Methuen Branch YMCA towards renovating the centre’s basketball court and outdoor facilities.

The Methuen factory currently employs about 90 employees, each involved with manufacturing one of NB’s most popular products, the 990v5. By the end of the year, the brand intends to double the factory’s workforce and in turn its output.
