New Balance Making Face Masks for the Hospital Community
New Balance are taking an ‘all hands on deck’ approach to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, announcing they will be making medical face masks for the hospital community. The announcement comes just days after the brand pledged $2 million to support relief efforts.
In a statement, New Balance says they have the ‘expertise and resources to solve new and extraordinary challenges’ posed by the virus, and that prototype masks are already being made in the brand’s manufacturing facility in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Once workable prototypes have been created, the brand will move to scale production with its other New England-based factories.
A recent post on Instagram shows a mask sample, alongside a ‘Made shoes yesterday. Making masks today’ slogan. Whether the actual masks will look like this remains to be seen.
New Balance’s announcement came just hours after Nike announced similar plans to design medical masks and equipment, reaffirming the big brands’ commitment to fighting COVID-19.
