Mark Parker Apologises to Staff for Nike's Corporate Culture

Mark Parker ApologisesMark Parker Apologises

held an internal meeting to apologise for a problematic corporate culture that marginalised women and minorities. The Wall Street Journal reports that Parker met with employees on Thursday at the Beaverton’s Tiger Woods Conference Centre and addressed issues that led to a number of executives .

The problems came to light after women within Nike distributed a survey that collected accounts of sexism, wage gaps and sexual harassment. According to WSJ, Trevor Edwards (Nike's now ex-president/ex-employee) was a key perpetrator. He would favour men over women, and promote those close to him to such an extent that other employees nicknamed the clique ‘FOT’, meaning ‘friends of Trevor’.

This apology comes after Nike senior female employees to executive positions, a move that will hopefully beget a larger cultural shift within Nike.
