It appears Levi’s have collaborated once again with New Balance, this time on the 327 model. Like their Cone Mills 1300 from earlier this year, the latest joint effort is a sneaker showcase of denim, of which Levi’s are historically regarded as being at the precipice. However, there’s more NB design language this time round, with healthy injections of nylon too. There are three editions from this colab: two for men and one for women.

The first men’s colourway is a 50/50 split of indigo denim twill on the lateral side and crisp white nylon on the medial. It makes for quite a stark contrast, especially when each side is complemented with tonal navy and grey suede overlays. As the 327 only features N branding on the lateral panel, the collaborators double down with a dual-layered screenprinted and leather logo, with the idiosyncratic red Levi’s tab stitched to the side of the upper layer. Beyond that tab, Levi’s branding is quite minimal, as the only other appearance of the brand is on the insole graphic. However, the tan leather tongue strip is a fairly overt reference to denim jeans’ waist patches. And a matching gum rubber knobbly outsole ties it all together nicely.

The women’s rendition takes a similar approach to the blue men’s pair, but uses a much lighter shade of washed denim on the lateral side. And the suede overlays are completely shaded in light grey, resulting in a two-toned look. The medial is also rendered in white nylon, but light blue suede bleeds onto this side’s eyestays. Again, gum rubber is used on the outsole. Where this version differs is the lateral N branding, which opts for a single piece of leather with the red tab, sans screenprint underlay.

Finally, the other men’s option uses washed grey twill on the lateral side that is paired to white nylon on the medial. Its suede overlays are also tonal grey suede. Here, the N branding is double layered with a white screenprint logo underneath a black leather type. Which is matched to the black rubber outsole. This is comparatively the cleanest, if not most reserved, edition of the three.
