KAWS Opens Up About His Recent Jordan Brand Collaboration

Kaws Speaks Out About His Recent Jordan Brand CollaborationKaws Speaks Out About His Recent Jordan Brand Collaboration

Unless you've been on a technology-free sabbatical these past few months, you no doubt caught wind of the hype surrounding the release of the x … and were likely smashing F5 the same as the rest of the thirsty masses. With the dust settled, tears shed and ludicrous four-figure resale prices dominating eBay, it's sadly time to accept that few of us will ever get our hands on this coveted collaboration. Like any good piece of art however, we don't need to claim ownership to appreciate its beauty.

The New Jersey-based artist, real name Brian Donnelly, sat down with Hypebeast to comment on the iconic amalgamation. When questioned as to what it was like working with Jordan Brand, Donnelly responded, 'I wanted to make a shoe that I can wear. The other ones [his previous sneaker collaborations] were more pop, but that was ten years ago. If you would’ve approached me on a different week, we would’ve had a very pop sneaker. When I first spoke to Gemo [Jordan Brand senior director of special projects, Gemo Wong] about doing this project, I was thinking about like making a good object.'

On the difficulty of balancing multiple projects at once, 'It’s fun for me to be able to sort of float between different worlds in different sort of ways that my work could disseminate to people and I like the challenge of keeping something and rejuvenating it. I try to not get stuck on anything and I think I’ve worked with everybody in every kind of level of company' Donnelly stated. 'I think it’s great when people reach out of their comfort zones and bring new things to the table. You know, make people angry and then three years later, it’s the norm.'
