KAWS Customises sacai x Nike LDWaffles for Free Arts NYC’s 21st Annual Art Auction
Renowned artist KAWS has put his own distinctive touches on the sought-after sacai x Nike LDWaffle, customising black and white colourways to be auctioned off at the Free Arts NYC’s 21st Annual Art Auction.
Announced via KAWS’ official Instagram account, the reveal shows off the playful spins on both the shoes and the packaging. The heel sections of the upper and midsoles feature trademark squiggles and KAWS’ X-marked eyes motif. Additionally, the packaging has his signature, as well as a cartoony character spruiking ‘Free Arts!’ and sacai.
Originally released in 2019, the sacai x Nike LDWaffle is arguably the most coveted sneaker collaboration from the trailblazing Japanese label. At present, pairs of the white colourway are regularly moving for over $1000 on the secondary market.
Free Arts NYC works to empower underserved youth through art and mentoring programs that develop their creativity, confidence, and skills to succeed. To date, they’ve served 32,000 children and families, and engaged 18,000 volunteers. The organisation’s 21st Annual Art Auction is presented by sacai, and will feature works from KAWS and various local talent.
If you’re keen to own this special KAWS x sacai x Nike LDWaffle custom, the auction is taking place via Artsy. Bids open on October 16.
