Back in April, Kasina shared a quick teaser of their forthcoming Air Max 1 colab with Nike, raising anticipation for the follow-up project to their well-received duo of Dunk Low colabs from 2020. Now, we've been given a first look at the South Korean brand's latest project with the Swoosh.
Revealed by Keven 'KB' Le (@fakesickness), the co-founder of Emotionally Unavailable and former head designer for UNDEFEATED, Kasina's Air Max 1 is rich in tone and texture alike. Its vibrant palette combines burgundy leather and suede with orange suede, ocean blue pony hair, leather and suede, tan suede and plenty of other little touches, and it features special lace deubres, tongue branding and floral mini Swooshes to boot!
The multi-coloured duck hangtag that the Kasina x Nike Air Max 1 comes with is almost as eye-catching as the shoe itself. Though the design's official inspiration has yet to be revealed, there's a solid possibility that it's the Mandarin duck, both owing to the hangtag and the overall colour scheme. The Mandarin duck has great significance in South Korea: when the colourful ducks mate, they stick with their partner for life, so wooden ducks are often given as wedding gifts in Korea. Kasina are no stranger to pulling inspiration from South Korean culture and life, of course – their above-mentioned Dunk duo was inspired by Gyeongbu Expressway (the central highway between Busan and Seoul) and Seoul’s vintage buses from the 1980s!
