Sadly last week Virgil Abloh, Off-White founder and artistic director for menswear at Louis Vuitton passed away from a rare form of cancer at age 41. He was recently commemorated at Art Basel Miami with an emotional speech from CEO Michael Burke. Now, Abloh's position at LV remains vacant. As his collections were always critically acclaimed, whoever is chosen as his successor to the role will have enormous shoes to fill.

Rumours are currently alleging that Abloh’s longtime friend Kanye West will be taking up the position. The news has surfaced via The Sun, however has not been confirmed from either West or LVMH (LV’s parent company).

Abloh and West have had a longtime partnership and have been close friends for years, with Abloh acting as creative director for Donda since 2010. According to The Sun, a source has said: 'Kanye is devastated about Virgil’s death because they had been friends for years and worked together a lot. They shared a similar vision and now Kanye feels he owes it to Virgil to continue his work at Louis Vuitton.'

As previously stated, this is yet to be confirmed. We’ll keep you updated as this story progresses.
