While imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, it seems Kanye West doesn’t like the admiration Walmart have shown for his famed Yeezy Foam Runner!

The Foam Runner has been a shoe that has ruled 2020 and 2021, seeing major success within the sneakersphere. We even called it a ‘Cosmic Masterpiece’. With its wild success, and slew of new colourways, it wasn’t long before imitations started to circulate, with American retail giant Walmart allegedly jumping in on the action. Retailing for $24.49, Walmart’s shoe was dubbed an ‘unauthorised exact copy’ and was priced significantly less than the Foam Runner’s RRP and resale value. When Kanye got wind of this fakery, his team at Yeezy sent a legal warning to the retail chain, suing for damages!

According to legal documents that were acquired by TMZ, Yeezy has said that Walmart have duplicated the Foam Runner, leaving consumers in the dark about whether it’s the real thing, and costing Kanye’s brand millions of dollars in potential sales. Since the news broke, a spokesperson for Walmart has come forth stating that ‘The product referenced in the complaint is not sold by Walmart, but rather by third party Marketplace sellers. We take allegations like this seriously and are reviewing the claim. We will respond in court as appropriate after we have been served with the complaint’.

Since then, it looks like the fake Foam Runners have been removed from the Walmart site. If more updates on this court case come forth we’ll keep you updated.
