Prophets are often mocked in their own life time and when we finally come around to their genius and want to give them the flowers to smell they're already in the ground pushing the flowers up. Edgar Allan Poe, Franz Kafka and Van Gogh all got popular when they'd already kicked the bucket, Jordan Brand sneakers, however, enjoyed extraordinary success when His Airness was gracing the court and also in the afterlife since. Right now though, it feels like the retro Jordan game is as big as it has ever been, and with shout-outs in pop songs and appearances on red carpets and line-ups and sell-outs a daily reality, the thirst for Js seems just about unquenchable. Jordan Brand are doing their bit to supply the flyness though and look to be going big, real big, announcing a partnership with Footaction to create 'Flight 23', the first Jordan-only retail store in North America. The New York-based store is just the start too, we can expect more of these Money Mike exclusive shops soon.
'We’re excited to launch North America's first Jordan Brand exclusive retail experience for athletes at the top of their game who demand the absolute best in both performance and style,' Jordan Brand president Larry Miller said. 'We will work with Footaction to bring Flight 23 to markets across North America, and can't imagine a better place to start than one of the best basketball cities in the world, New York.' Real talk.
The NYC store is currently covered by a massive Jordan Box, cleverrrr, and will open within a few weeks. We'll be very interested to see what kind of releases it will host – the hyped retro releases often sell out on launch days, so will there be a much higher allocation for Flight 23? Will more retro Jordans be produced so they can sit on shelves? Could it actually occur that people will walk into this store and stumble on a pair of retro Js in their size they fall in love at first sight without having to be in the know about release dates? Or will the production numbers stay the same and these Flight stores serve as everyday galleries for the less hyped Jordan releases, like the Super.Flys, CP.3 and Spizike lines and become a popular sleepout joint for bringbacks? Lots of questions, no answers yet, we'll keep you in the loop. News via Nike, INC.
