Sotheby’s continues to solidify their foothold in the rare sneakers market, with the auction house recently inking a deal as the NBA’s official game worn merchant. But the global brokerage specialists have a diverse range of rare and collectible footwear, including colabs and samples from the hip-hop world. And they don’t just auction these rare kicks, with some pairs available in their ‘Buy Now’ format. One such find is the Jay-Z x Reebok S. Carter 'Shady Records' sample, which is now accepting enquiries for purchase.

A pair of the Roc-A-Fella x Nike Air Force 1 ‘The Black Album’ were recently up for grabs as part of GOAT’s Black Friday event. But a Jay-Z fan with a bit of spare cash could score this exclusive pair from the Brooklyn rapper and mogul’s early 2000s partnership with Reebok. The S. Carter were the flagship pair of Jay-Z’s 2002 multi-year signature apparel and sneaker endorsement with Reebok.

This low-top was the first release of the line and is a remix of the Gucci 84 tennis sneaker. This iteration was designed to honour Eminem’s record label, Shady Records. Marshall Mathers and Jigga were frequent collaborators at the time, with Em appearing on Jay-Z’s ‘The Blueprint’ in 2001 and handling production duties for one cut from ‘The Black Album’ in 2003. The sneaker is constructed with leather, rubber, cotton, and synthetic materials and features an all white colourway. The ‘Shady Record’ logo is embroidered in ‘Sheer Grey’ on the lateral heel.
