HORNBACH have built a swimming pool shaped like a giant pair of adidas ZX 10000 sneakers using materials available from the German DIY store chain. It was unveiled at the Berlin Fashion Weekend that just passed and was immediately christened by a handful of the surprised crowd members.

Designed in conjunction with creative agency Heimat, and constructed by Neulant van Exel, one of the most impressive elements of the ‘Sneakerpool’ is the fact all of its materials can be bought from HORNBACH stores. While not every DIYer has room or the dexterity to create a swimming pool-sized pair of sneakers, this audacious pair of adis is representative of the unlimited potential that the store provides. Of course, they have a complete range of pool supplies too.

While officially referred to as a pool, its ‘ankle’ opening doesn’t leave much room to swim laps. Instead, the core is actually a spa bath, which makes lounging in there (which requires ladder access, by the way) a much more comfortable experience.

HORNBACH have previously collaborated with artist Ai Weiwei and architect Sigurd Larsen on various out-there projects, but the ‘Sneakerpool’ is literally the biggest yet. The colourway was based on the 43einhalb x adidas ZX 10000 ‘Joint Path’, one of the boutique’s biggest releases in 2021.
