FUTUREVVORLD's Mission: Deadstock Pop-Up Features a Curated Sneaker Gallery and Auction
FUTUREVVORLD are a 'digital forum for terrestrials to discover, embrace and inform the growing sustainability movement in fashion, footwear and design.' They cover all the sneaker, fashion, and design news that any street culture savant knows and loves, but with a twist: their focus is firmly on sustainable, green and earth-friendly products. They're all about reducing waste, being mindful of the planet and curbing unnecessary consumption, and those three key points will all be on display at their upcoming Misson: Deadstock pop-up in NYC!
Going down at in Manhattan's Lower East Side, Misson: Deadstock is aiming to call back to the 'golden age' of sneaker culture. 'In the late ‘90s and 2000s, in NYC, before sneaker culture was dictated by what plays out on the internet, I vividly recall walking into sneaker stores and stumbling upon silhouettes that I didn’t know existed. That element of discovery is currently missing from the equation,' says Daniel Navetta, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of FUTUREVVORLD. 'Mission: Deadstock [also] serves as an opportunity to remind us that the most responsible thing we can do is purchase some of the incredible stock that already exists.'
The second part of Navetta's statement is at the core of Mission: Deadstock. 40 pairs of sneakers, both new and gently used, will be on display at Extra Butter – and each pair comes from the collection of a notable figure in sneaker culture. Individuals who contributed kicks to the event include Jaques Slade, Sophia Chang, Extra Butter's Bernie Gross and Claima Stories host Bimma Williams. T-shirts designed by Felipe Merida and printed by LQQK Studios on biodegradable blanks from Version Tomorrow will be made available as well. At the end of the event, each pair of sneakers will be auctioned off with proceeds going to NYC-area charities that aid in recycling and waste reduction within the fashion industry.
If you're in the Big Apple and want to check Mission: Deadstock out for yourself, it's going down at Extra Butter LES (125 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002) on Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 17, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
