UK-based retailer Footpatrol have encapsulated the age of desktop screensaver and mini-discman inspired fashion with their early 2000s nostalgic rendition of the PUMA Velophasis. Choosing the canvas of a modern running shape for the colab, Footpatrol’s design team has coated the Velophasis with an equal parts ultra modern and blast from the past aesthetic, true to the spirit of the era’s obsession with machinery and revival.

Inspired by the Y2K fashion trend of blending metallic hues with video game neon, the silhouette creates a walking (or running) noughties time capsule with its fusion of nostalgia and futurism. Dressed in a science-fiction tint of metallic silver and ice blue accents, the shoe plays with translucency and movement, notably on display in the gel heel inspired by the 2000s inflatable furniture craze.

For the overall design approach, Footpatrol drew inspiration from the console game demo discs commonly found in computer magazines during the early naughties. The exterior of the shoes blend 'Metal', 'Gel', and 'Ice' to evoke old school video game menus and loading screens. They're complemented by a reflective sole imbued with the same signature 00s tones. Meanwhile the architecture of the sneaker delivers comfort and function with a cushioned CMEVA midsole and rubber soles underfoot for traction and ease.

The Footpatrol x PUMA Velophasis will be available December 2 for approximately $150 retail, exclusively from Footpatrol in-store and online.
