First Look: The Air Max 96 II ‘Mystic Teal’ 2021 Retro
The sneakersphere may have been gorging on 2000s vibes over the last year or so, but we’d be lying if said there wasn’t room for another 1990s revival – hell, we’ve debated the point. Needless to say, we’re pretty damn excited for the upcoming Nike Air Max 96 II ‘Mystic Teal’ retro. Last seen for the model’s 20th anniversary in 2016, the underappreciated bubble-bottom is often overshadowed by monster Maxes 95 and 97, but it has amassed quite the fanbase nonetheless.
The 96’s sole unit has been a controversial topic since the ’16 anniversary iteration used the Air Max 95 Ultra sole unit, and the controversy looks set to continue, with a new sole unit showing noticeably downsized heel Air units when compared to the OG. The upper also gets a bit of a change-up, with the nubuck mudguard supplanted by leather.
Purists may still be waiting for the perfect retro, but this revival will likely please the large majority of Max fans. Look for these to drop, along with the ‘Goldenrods’, some time this year.
