Event Recap: atmos x Nike Air Max2 Light Launch Event by Solebox
European sneaker hub Solebox have celebrated the release of the much-anticipated atmos x Nike Air Max2 Light with a stunning launch event in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Bringing together homegrown sneaker royalty and atmos creative director Hirofumi ‘Koji’ Kojima all the way from Japan, the event transformed the local exhibition space into an Air Max2 Light–themed DIY-style workshop embodying the 90s graf aesthetic that’s made the vibrant release one of the most memorable collaborations in recent times.
Attendees were welcomed with crafting tables and a huge wooden frame of a house overlooking the creative area. Meanwhile, a next-level display showcasing the sneaker and the collection’s co-branded apparel was front-and-centre for all to see.
Workshop participants flexed their inventiveness with a collage constructing exercise, inspired by the collaboration’s mismatched, 90s vintage aesthetic. Obligatory beers and Dutch/Asian fusion cuisine kept the good vibes and creative juices flowing throughout.
Local heads caruex, deadstocksnkrblog, mikee_polo, girlonkicks, ginnynoa and chanika were all on hand to take in the festivities.
Opening to the public later in the day, the launch transitioned into an intimate Q&A session with Koji. The sneaker savant discussed atmos’ ongoing involvement with Nike, and the evolution of the partnership ever since the game-changing ‘Safari’ collaboration in 2003.
Koji also spoke about his inspirations, referring to a popular Japanese proverb ‘express with your own body’. Using the quote as a muse, he says physical interactions and new experiences all play a part in his sneaker designs. He even credited Amsterdam’s architecture as a muse, describing the differences between the city’s buildings compared to Japan.
Shout-outs to Solebox for inviting us along! Stay tuned for an even more amazing event in the future.
