Revealed! Comme des Garçons Homme Plus x New Balance 550
Comme des Garçons' Homme Plus label sent its FW22 collection down the Parisian runways last week, and though they had sneaker lovers wide-eyed thanks to their new Air Max 97 colab with Nike – while still waiting on their Air Sunder Max to drop – they didn't let on that they had more in the chamber. The Swoosh isn't the only brand that Homme Plus is working with: they've also teamed with New Balance for a duo of black and white 550s.
Rei Kawakubo isn't afraid to get colourful on CDG's footwear colabs, but most of them, these 550s included, opt for a stark look with keen attention to detail. Here, the classic hoop shoe is done up in black with bone and white accents as well as white with black accents. There's special branding on the heels and insoles while the upper is made of high-grade leather, but besides those tweaks, both are left largely unchanged from in-line release – letting the 550's late 1980s hoops style speak for itself. These 550s follow up other CDG x NB colabs like a GORE-TEX-lined 57/40, an airy 1300 and a stark, sleek 997s.
Currently, a release date for the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus x New Balance 550 is unknown, but it's likely to hit retailers later this year alongside the FW22 collection. You can expect to shell out a higher-than-usual price for 'em too to allot for the co-branded details and premium materials.
