Colin Kaepernick Could Sign to adidas If He Plays in the NFL Next Season
Famed for sparking an anti-police-brutality movement after kneeling during the national anthem in 2016, ex-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick could have a brand new adidas contract, should he re-sign with a league team.
In a recent interview, adidas North America president Mark King expressed strong interest in signing the 30-year-old.
‘If he signs on a team, we would definitely want to sign him,’ said King.
A polarising figure, ‘Kap’ has been without a team since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March, 2017. He later filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging that NFL owners colluded to keep him out of the league following the kneeling controversy.
‘We love athletes that have a platform to make the world a better place,’ said King about Kaepernick’s social and political influence. ‘If they’re an activist in a way that brings attention to something that moves the world forward, even if there’s controversy at that moment, we’re really interested in those athletes because I think it represents the world today.’
Kap would join stars like Aaron Rodgers, Von Miller, and DeAndre Hopkins on the adidas roster should he receive and accept a contract.
In his most recent attempt to return to the NFL, it’s rumoured that the Seattle Seahawks postponed a scheduled workout with him after he declined to revealed whether his protesting was over.
