Update April 12, 2022: The final CLOT x Nike ‘Clotez’ colourway will launch via SNKRS and select retailers on April 14.

Update March 31, 2022: CLOT have announced release details for their upcoming Nike ‘Clotez’, the third colourway paying tribute to the original 1972 Cortez. The collaboration will arrive at select JUICE stores on April 7. Raffles open on April 3.

‘The reason I favour the Cortez is because it’s very representative of the L.A. culture, especially street culture and also sports culture,’ CLOT Founder and Creative Director Edison Chen said in an interview. ‘The Los Angeles Dodgers shoe, also in blue, white, red, is obviously a Cortez. It’s very L.A. You don’t have to write L.A., everybody just knows.’

Edison Chen’s CLOT label have been generating all kinds of hype with their duo of Nike ‘Clotez’ this year. Arriving in black and white and a Bruce Lee-inspired yellow and black, the neck-craning 3-in-1 design is inspired by ancient Yin-Yang philosophy. The ideology, always a central component of CLOT’s collaborations, serves as a jumping point for exploring tai chi and the notions of fluidity and change.

With two colourways already in the books, it now looks like CLOT have a classic Cortez colourway on the horizon, the classic blue, red and white rendition teased by Chen via his social media account this week. Accompanied with a caption referencing Forrest Gump and the iconic Cortez unboxing, the colouway adopts the classic OG composition.

First introduced by Nike in 1972, the Cortez is still one of Nike’s best selling sneakers. Originally called the Aztec, it was inspired by the lightweight running shoes worn by athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

Currently, there are no further details on CLOT’s upcoming Cortez collaboration, but make sure to keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates.
