Closer Look: Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550

Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 550

Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance are on a hot streak at the moment, already dropping collaborative efforts using the 1300, 827 and 997. Now, it looks like the P550 Basketball Oxfords are next on the list. Revealed in an Instagram post by ALD and sported by Team Sonny (an U15 AAU basketball team led by coach Kenny Satterfield), the collaboration now receives an up-close look.

Shared by ALD’s founder Teddy Santis, the sneak peek shows off the vintage basketball shoe in all its glory. As for the story behind the collaboration - the OG dropped in 1989, and hadn’t been touched until now. The New Balance P550 Basketball Oxfords, according to Santis, were almost impossible to find information on, making them somewhat of an enigma in sneaker circles.

However, after some digging from ALD crew and Team NB, they've finally brought it back. Clean and classic, the NB550 ties in perfectly with the rest of ALD’s offering, with its release coinciding with the activation of the SONNY Grassroots Basketball Program.

Taking us back to ’89, the basketball silhouette has been dressed in a very vintage-looking white base, with perforated leather along the sides and toe box. Grey accents have been added, including 550 branding plastered proudly along the lateral toe. Meanwhile, ALD’s logo hits on the tongue, with the classic ’N’ featuring on both lateral and medial sides. The off-white sole and complementing laces provide the finishing touches.

Sadly, no release date has surfaced just yet, but we’ll keep you updated!
