PRESS RELEASE
Clarks Originals celebrates 60th birthday with special auction for War Child
Artists and illustrators customize iconic Desert Boot

16 Artists, illustrators and personalities from Holland and Belgium were asked to customize the famous Clarks Originals Desert Boot. This to celebrate the 60th birthday of the crêpe sole shoe introduced by Nathan Clark. Amongst others DJ and shoe-fetishist Mr. Wix, fashion-illustrator Piet Paris and image-stylist Dyanne Beekman co-operated. These unique and arty Desert Boots will be auctioned from November 30th till December 9th 2009 via www.clarks.nl and www.clarks.be. Full profit will be donated to charity organization War Child.

Participants
All participants voluntary customized the Clarks Originals Desert Boot. They are a few of the millions of fans that have collected the laced shoe over it's 60 years. Best known are probably Bob Dylan and band members of The Beatles, Oasis and Arctic Monkeys. According to illustrator Piet Paris, soon Lilly Allen will walk around in his pair of customized boots. His young edition of the classic shoe is inspired by her. Karen van de Kraats' design is called ‘ABOUT'. She used the shoes to write all kinds of facts about the desert on them. The Belgian all-round creative Franky Claeys got his inspiration from fata morganas and dazzled the shoe with pieces of mirror. A list of all participants included their inspiration and CV is enclosed with this press release.

Six limited editions in AW 2009/2010 collection
Clarks Originals already released six special editions of the Desert Boot for the autumn/winter collection 2009/2010. Three kinds for women and three kinds for men. All of them inspired by one of the six decades in which the Desert Boot was an absolute fashion icon. The edition in Harris Tweed (50's), the version with the British Union Jack (90's) and the authentic suede shoe with the orange stitches (00's) for men and a Liberty-print (60's), The Factory issue (70's) and a denim-edition (80's) for women.

Auction from November 30th until December 9th 2009 via www.clarks.nl and www.clarks.be.
