Less than five years ago, thoughts of a BAPE and New Balance colab would have seemed like a far-flung sneakerhead fever dream, but as of 2022 the two already have a well-received set of 2002Rs under their belt and are set to follow it up with new takes on the 57/40. A lifestyle model that combines the DNA of the 574 with a new-jack construction and bold detailing, the 57/40's bold panelling and sizable branding make it a perfect canvas for BAPE to embellish with its signature motifs. As seen in these photos from @ylt_r3_ they've done just that – all without forgoing New Balance's signature grey and black shades.
Most of the special detailing is placed on the midfoot and heel, with BAPE snow camo taking up residence on the midfoot's N logo, a shark mouth graphic wrapping around the collar and a silver foil ape head stamped on the heel. The rest of the shoe plays off of these details, surrounding them with silver mesh and grey/black suedes and making for a look that's significantly more muted than the BAPE x New Balance 57/40 pack's other candy-coloured pair!
At the time of writing, we're still awaiting information on an official release date, but the BAPE x New Balance 57/40 is likely to drop in the coming months.
