New Images: Air Jordan 5 'Racer Blue'

The beginning of a new year brings promise of new colourways from Jordan Brand. Up next is the Air Jordan 5 ‘Racer Blue’, which was previewed a couple of months ago. As retailers begin to load up their web stores with imagery, signs are pointing towards an imminent – but still unconfirmed – release. For the time being, here are some new shots.

The ‘Racer Blue’ edition is a simple flip on the OG ‘Black Metallic’ edition, so a lot of familiar details are retained. Like the original, the uppers are rendered in black synthetic nubuck, which is sometimes referred to internally as ‘durabuck’. A unique feature of the AJ5 is its rubberised mesh vents found on the mid panels and instep, a generational improvement over the type used on its Air Jordan 4 predecessor. Another distinct element of this model is the reflective material used on the large tongue, reprised here with contrasting ‘Racer Blue’ Jumpman branding. Sitting just below this is a two-piece lace toggle. Underfoot, matching blue midsoles and ice outsoles complete the easy palette swap, resulting in an easy-wearing retro.
