New Images: Air Jordan 12 ‘Playoffs’ 2022 Retro
More sneakerheads are turning their attention to some of the ‘comeback’ era models, such as the Air Jordan 12. One of its defining colour ways, colloquially known as the ‘Playoffs’, is coming back in 2022 for its 25th anniversary, and it’s unlikely it will be a sleeper like its previous releases.
Known as such because it was a colourway Michael Jordan wore in the 1997 NBA Playoffs en route to his fifth championship, this edition was one of the original AJ12s. The model is known for its all-leather build, with the unique inclusion of a pebbled mudguard. It was also the first Air Jordan signature shoe to use Zoom Air technology. The combination of materials and cushioning still proves formidable for on-court use to this day.
In keeping true to OG specification, the ‘Playoffs’ 2022 retro reprises the primarily black leather upper and aforementioned pebbled white mudguard. This is linked to a tonal white rubber sole that is cut away at the mid foot to reveal a large carbon fibre shank for stability. Some boot-style lace hooks help lock down the ankle, and red Jumpman branding on the tongue is period correct.
