Air Jordan 1s, Travis Scott Colabs Among Most Faked Sneakers, According to Study
A study conducted by has found that and collaborations are among the most faked sneakers.
The ‘Rep Creps’ investigation scoured thousands of social media posts across numerous platforms, specifically on threads and topics devoted to replica sneakers. Only posts that inquired about ‘QC’ (quality check) and/or were customer reviews were tallied.
From the data, it was found that the Air Jordan 1 ‘Dark Mocha’ was the most repped sneaker, amassing over 3000 related posts. Not far behind was the Travis Scott x fragment design x Air Jordan 1 Low at about 2600 posts, followed by the original TS x AJ1 High with 100 fewer posts. Below is a list of the top 25 repped sneakers, according to the figures.
As seen above, the difference between the rep and retail prices was relatively minuscule, with most of the top 25 rep pairs being less than $50 cheaper than retail. The Yeezy 700 ‘Wave Runner’ was one outlier, netting a $165 lower price than its $300 RRP.
Responses from rep buyers for this study indicated that the primary reason for buying counterfeits was to avoid paying resale prices after missing out on the retail release. One less prevalent reason was some already owned the authentic product, but they would rather wear out their reps.
While the data suggests that there may be a ‘£3 million black market’ of rep sneakers, the most reliable figure is likely the brands and models represented.
