Releases of the Air Jordan 1 LV8D (the phonetics read as ‘elevated’) have been more of a trickle than a deluge. Perhaps Jordan Brand are playing it safe with the somewhat dramatic remix of the GOAT basketball sneaker and its platform sole by only releasing strong colourways, such as this ‘University Blue’ edition that taps into the universally popular ‘UNC’ palette.

In all fairness, the LV8D isn’t that far removed from the original AJ1. The uppers are almost identical – some might even argue more accurate to ’85 editions than the regular AJ1 Low; the only difference seems to be the raised ‘Wings’ logo on the heel tab.

It’s only looking at the midsoles that the stark difference to formula becomes apparent. The platform sole looks like it increases the midsole height by at least double, and this enlargement is followed by the scaling up of other components too. What was once proportionate outsole tread is now exaggerated to match the ridiculousness of its adjacent slab of sole.

On the colourway front, there’s only white and ‘University Blue’ decorating the design, which is all that’s needed really.

Expect this new Air Jordan 1 LV8D to arrive in coming months from the usual retailers.
