Children’s sneakers often have the benefit of expressing concepts that are purer and more innocent compared to the seriousness of adult versions. One such example is this new Air Jordan 1 Low that promises a fresh future for those still green in the game – or at least it uses that illusion until the real world comes crashing down (says a cynical grownup).
If basketball is a form of escapism, then the destination is these AJ1s. Its sporting heritage is made pretty clear on the toe cap and eyestays, which are finished with black pebbled leather texture reminiscent of said basketballs. Elsewhere, the rear quarter and ankle collar are rendered in verdant green, bringing these shoes as close to nature as possible. That’s before embroidered flowers and vines are sewn into the Swooshes, evoking growth and development. And the rest of the shoe is finished in plain white leather, tying together what can be considered somewhat OG-styled colour-blocking that would actually work pretty well in adult sizes.
The seeds have been planted for these Air Jordan 1 Lows, but it might be a while yet before they’re fully grown and ready to wear. Check back in a couple of months.
