Germany’s Afew Goods have teamed up with local custom creator tornschuhjette to craft very special tribute to Japan and the Nike Dunk Low. Dubbed the ‘Daruma’ Dunk, the bespoke sneaker brings together a variety of luxurious materials, including premium leathers and kimono textiles.

Afew’s hometown Düsseldorf has one of largest Japanese communities in the world outside of Japan, compelling both entities to build this special Dunk Low in their honour.

The upper features six different hues – cloud blue, navy blue, yellow, red, brown and purple – working together to create an almost ‘What The–esque’ look. The wild mishmash sits atop a more classic white midsole and red outsole, while the heels feature a leather ‘eye of Daruma’. Additionally, the tongues boast a unique custom tag, while the insoles are elevated with original and vintage kimono material.

Daruma is a group of popular Japanese dolls that are modelled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. A talisman of good luck to the Japanese, Daruma dolls are also seen as symbols of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to gift yourself with a pair, as the Afew Goods x tornschuhjette ‘Daruma’ Dunk is a special one-of-one. So you’ll just have to be content with peeping all the details in the galleries above!
