The adidas ZX line may not have the same profile and hype in the retro running world compared to some of its peers from other brands, but a strong contingent of fans has always existed. These long-term collectors will undoubtedly be pleased to see the incoming return of this yellow ZX 9000 that released back in circa 2008.
It was that year that adidas really gave the ZX models a big push, a year shy of the line's 20th anniversary. Among OG reissues of famous four-digit models was this colourway, which was essentially a rearrangement of the bright hues that had come to define the series. Returning in coming months, adidas have essentially created a one-to-one remake in all of its microfibre and nylon mesh glory.
A component of the the ZX 9000 that needs to be discussed more is its midsole and cushioning systems. The model's Torsion Bar still works today to ensure stability, while Soft Cell inserts in the heel (seen below behind the translucent heel circle) are a valuable feature that isn't even called out in official adi press. For those who know, this is still a supremely comfortable sneaker in spite of its 30-year-old-plus age.
Expect this adidas ZX 9000 to likely land some time in 2022.
