Sportswear giants  have announced that their robot-run factories in the USA and Germany will soon shut down. Originally created to implement rapid production and bring the production process closer to consumers, the project has managed to create insights that will be transferred to production facilities in Asia.

In a move adidas describes as ‘more economic and flexible’, the relocation of assets is expected to transition the production techniques to other categories besides footwear.

According to Reuters, adidas Head of Global Operations Martin Shankland said the factories worked to expand upon the company’s innovative manufacturing processes. However, he stressed a shift of focus to Asia would be a more effective strategy moving forward.

The Three Stripes had originally planned to have robot-run factories all over world.
