There's a lot of hype around Canadian NBA draftee Andrew Wiggins right now, that's always the way with the number one, but the Cleveland Cavs' premium pick may be (just maybe) forming a holy trinity with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James next season. It's a thrilling prospect for a young gun, but while he's Birdmanning in his bedroom, his peeps in suits have been taking care of business and today adidas announced they've secured Wiggins' signature to rep the Three Stripes. The press release we received claimed the agreement was 'unprecedented' and 'the most comprehensive rookie partnership in adidas basketball history'. Like the deals with Kanye, Pharrell, Nigo and everyone else in recent memory, adidas hasn't given much away about the specifics yet, other than saying 'Wiggins will be featured in a variety of upcoming adidas initiatives and will play a critical role in the development of basketball footwear and apparel.' So, how will it be 'unprecedented' then? With reports the deal slips around $2 million in Wiggins' wallet per year, it certainly won't be the most expensive – Derrick Rose signed a 13-year deal for $185 million when he entered the NBA.

Adidas' head of global basketball sports marketing, Chris Grancio, wouldn't give anything away, dropping some Grade A reserved corporate talk. 'Partnering with an elite talent of Andrew’s caliber continues our momentum and investment to the future of adidas,' he said. 'With our recent partnership success with first-time NBA All-Stars Damian Lillard and John Wall, and cultural icons Kanye West and Pharrell Williams joining the brand, we’re excited to welcome Andrew to the adidas family and we look forward to him contributing to our brand’s success for years to come.'

So, what does it all mean, Basil? Will Wiggins get his own shoe? Eponymous signature sneaks for rookies (or any player) hasn't been particularly popular in the last five years, so adidas would be showing a lot of confidence in the youngster if they did lace him up with one (especially given the D Rose injury debacle). What would it be called? The Wiggins 1? The SPRINTWEB Wig? Either way, Andrew W himself seems pretty stoked with the signing, tweeting out a pic of himself totally Trefoiled from head-to-toe. Stay up with Sneaker Freaker in the coming months for the word on how adidas will utilise Wiggins and their own draftee signing, Aussie Dante Exum.
