adidas Make Bold Moves to Reduce Carbon Footprint

adidas have outlined plans to use only recycled plastic by 2024.

The German retail giant have already been establishing practises for an environmentally friendly future, using recycled ocean plastic to construct popular Parley collaborations like the NMD_R1 and UltraBOOST. Sales of both sneakers have skyrocketed over the past 12 months, with adidas forecasting $5 million in sales for 2018 (as opposed to $1 million in 2017).

The Three Stripes have also committed to using 41 per cent recycled polyester in their apparel, as well as eliminating the use of ‘virgin’ plastic across their retail stores, offices, warehouses and distribution centres. Dumping virgin plastic is expected to save around 40 tonnes of plastic per year.

Unfortunately, the use of plastic continues to spike across the globe, growing 20-fold over the past 50 years. Hopefully, this move by adidas signals a shift in the sneaker industry more broadly.
