adidas have Created a Stan Smith Using Mushrooms
Sustainability within the sneakersphere has taken major strides over the past few years, and brands are continuing to innovate and come up with different ways to manufacture without hurting the environment. One brand that’s made some major moves recently is adidas, following on from their sustainable Stan Smith, they’re looking to further their initiative, now debuting the legendary trainer created using mushrooms!
Dubbed the adidas Stan Smith Mylo, it uses Mylo as the material which is a mushroom-based fabric that is a more renewable alternative to leather. According to adidas it also feels soft and supple! While incredibly sustainable, it’s also highly efficient and grows in under two weeks. A win-win!
This Stan Smith falls inline with Team Trefoil’s research into creating footwear that is ‘Made with Nature’. A unique collaboration with biotechnology company Bolt Threads has made it possible for them to undertake this project. We’re excited to see what they’ve got coming up next.
The upper of the Stan Smith Mylo has been constructed using the mushroom-based material, while the sole unit has been decked out in a natural rubber. The construction of the Stan Smith remains the same, with perforated Three Stripes and a heel tab overlay. The only difference is the new Mylo premium branding at the rear.
So far, no release details have come through for the adidas Stan Smith, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
