Fruits of Tokyo

The 574 owes a serious debt to Japanese sneakerheads. Even while the model remained dormant in other regions, it continued to thrive in Japan where a fascination with Americana established New Balance as a legitimate staple. Between 1997 and 2017, Shoichi Aoki’s FRUiTS magazine was dedicated to documenting the wild street-style flavours of Tokyo. The monthly print edition was a style bible for local scenesters and a conduit through which the rest of the world could appreciate the sartorial experimentation that fuelled the local scene. Documented over 20 years by Shoichi Aoki, here are some of the best New Balance moments in FRUiTS.
