The Nike LeBron ‘Space Jam’ Sneakers We Want to See
It’s only taken 25 years, but the much-talked-about sequel to Space Jam is finally prepped and ready to hit the big screen. Swapping one icon for another, LeBron James subs in for Michael Jordan in Space Jam: A New Legacy. Set to rekindle love for the Looney Tunes, this follow-up will also introduce a whole a new legion of fans to the kind of hardwood hysterics that made the OG such a cult classic.
For sneakerheads, MJ dunking over the Monstars in the Air Jordan 11 ‘Space Jam’ will always remain one of the most iconic scenes from the original film. To carry on that storied ‘Space Jam’ sneaker lineage, Nike have already prepped a ginormous sneaker smorgasbord for A New Legacy, headlined by LeBron’s latest signature: the LeBron 19. Not a bad effort if you ask us, but we thought we could go one better…
Taking to some of The King’s best signature models, we’ve finessed our own distinct ‘Space Jam’ sequels. Everybody, get up. It’s time to slam now! Let’s get this show on the road.
Nike LeBron 5 ‘Tune Squad: Bugs Bunny’Nike LeBron 5 ‘Tune Squad: Bugs Bunny’
Resident trickster Bugs Bunny isn’t one to follow the rules, and this LeBron 5 carries the same IDGAF energy as the legendary Looney Tune. Combining grey rabbit fur with the familiar Tune Squad colours, the sneaker flaunts with obligatory team logos and a lateral Bugs graphic. Better bring your A-game if you want to wear these bad bunnies – those rabbit ears will definitely make you a target for the Goon Squad.
Nike LeBron 2 ‘Monstars: Bupkus’Nike LeBron 2 ‘Monstars: Bupkus’
Forget the Dream Team, these LeBron 2 joints rep the Mean Team! Stealing the powers of Larry Johnson in the OG Space Jam, Nerdluck alien Bupkus transforms himself into the uber-thicc, purple power forward for the Monstars. This themed sneaker carries the same drive-to-the-rim DNA, packed with the famed Zoom Air cushioning and ankle strap made famous by a young LeBron, another super athlete in his own right.
Nike LeBron 4 ‘Tune Squad: Tweety’Nike LeBron 4 ‘Tune Squad: Tweety’
Just when you ‘tawt’ you’d seen it all, Tweety Bird comes in with the LeBron 4s! The sassy canary shows off his Tune Squad loyalty with team colours decorating the entire sneaker. Making up for his diminutive size, the construction comes through with plenty of Foamposite tech, creating a statement-making oversized sole unit. Feathery yellow laces and lining are a ‘pweety’ nice touch as well.
Nike LeBron 7 ‘Space Jam’Nike LeBron 7 ‘Space Jam’
There’s no way we’d let the ‘Space Jam’ colourway miss out on any A New Legacy festivities, and we thought the LeBron 7 would be the perfect silhouette to wear the fan-favourite MJ scheme. When the Air Jordan 11 ‘Space Jam’ retro released in 2016, it became Jordan Brand’s highest selling sneaker ever (at the time), and it’s easy to see why. The shiny patent leather decks out the LeBron 7’s mudguard, while the classy blue accents and Air unit complete the timeless look.
