The New Balance 992 revival has been, without a doubt, positively epic! After an agonising 14-year-long wait, we were blessed with the elusive model back on shelves. To celebrate its glorious comeback, New Balance presented us with the OG in all its glory, plus heater GR releases and a slew of hard-to-get and beautifully-constructed collaborations.

That said, we thought that the great New Balance 992 deserved its very own yearly round-up. We know we’re jumping the gun, after all the year isn’t over just yet, but we’re getting in early – and will update it if more heat comes out before this year comes to a close. Head down below for the best NB992s that 2020 has had to offer.

Don’t Be Mad x New Balance 992

Don’t be mad if you took an L on the Don’t Be Mad x New Balance 992 ‘Anatomy of a Heart’. A serious vixen, we’re sure that on drop day it broke many a heart. That said, considering it released around Valentine’s Day, it would’ve made a nice gift if you or your significant other managed to secure a pair.

New Balance 992 ‘Purple’

Dressed in purple suede, this release really rocked the socks off 992 enthusiasts all over the world. With that beautiful tone, mixed with grey pops and the white contrast midsole, this GR was definitely one of New Balances best drops for the year.

JJJJound x New Balance 992

Theres a good chance you spotted the JJJJound x New Balance 992 on the biggest mood boards that Instagram has to offer. The tonal look on both the green and grey pairs perfectly encapsulated JJJJounds modern and minimalistic aesthetic, while still maintaining the classic New Balance look. After an all-out online war, selling out faster than the speed of light, the duo received a wider release, and now goes for a pretty penny on the secondary market.

WTAPS x New Balance 992

A very strong candidate for the overall best New Balance 992 collaboration of 2020, the WTAPS' rendition took the sneakersphere by storm thanks to its military-inspired take on the classic model. Dressed in that army green tone, with pops of orange, it slots in perfectly with the rest of WTAPS' impressive collaboration catalogue.

Be sure to check out that pedigree in our Brief History of WTAPS Colabs.

New Balance 992 ‘Navy’

Although there have been a bunch of amazing colabs that have released throughout this year, there have been a few GRs that have tickled the fancy of a NB head or two. And this navy iteration did just that. Dropping in September, with that renowned Made in the USA quality, these sure are a clean rendition!

Packer x New Balance 992

Celebrating the craftsmanship and high-quality production behind the New Balance 992, legendary sneaker store Packer reworked the silhouette with beautiful tones of brown and beige. They even teamed up with Queens-based artist Michael C. Thorpe to highlight the link-up.

New Balance 992 'OG Grey'

Last, but most definitely not least, is the New Balance 992 in the OG grey scheme. This colourway originally released in 2006 to celebrate NBs 100th anniversary. And, after a 14-year-long wait, New Balance fanatics were super pumped to see the return of the OG grey. Hallelujah!
