Trying to cop those limited edition kicks that you’ve been lusting after is hard! They often sell out faster than you can say: ‘I’ve taken another L’. With so many rejections dished out each week, it’s enough to make a sneaker enthusiast weep. But what if you ventured away from those rare, hype, Grail-worthy creps for a second, and instead focussed on those General Release goodies that are just sitting there, ready for the taking.

Let’s be honest, the chances of getting your hands on the Ben & Jerry’s Dunks, JJJJound x New Balance 992s, or Dior x Air Jordans were slim at best. So, why not shift your eyes to GRs?

There is no down side to scooping up a pair of General Release kicks – they are always going to be there, easy to cop, usually classics, and tend to differ from your usual Instagram newsfeed fodder.

GRs are usually passed-up by those caught in the hype cycle, so we’ve decided to shed some light on the best GRs that 2020 has had to offer... so far.

Nike Air Tailwind 79

The list starts off with a classic: the Nike Air Tailwind 79. A silhouette with a rich history in the sneaker world, it’s also the perfect GR crep to pick up when you’re feeling blue after taking an L. Available at almost every sneaker store in the world, and in countless colourways, there’s no excuse for not having a pair in your rotation.

New Balance 990

If you’ve been down on your luck with recent sneaker releases, why not splash out on a quality, Made in the USA New Balance 990? They can be a little more expensive than your usual crep, but trust us, these will last you a long time!

Reebok Club C

The Reebok Club C can be styled with just about anything! That versatility, especially when dressed in all-white, makes it a classic silhouette that belongs in everyone’s closet.

adidas Torsion TRDC

Back in 2019, adidas celebrated the 30th birthday of their Torsion tech. To mark that momentus occasion, Team Trefoil shone the spotlight on the lesser known Torsion TRDC. Exuding a strong early-2000s aesthetic, it’s the perfect GR to pickup when you’re looking for the vintage vibes that’ll really set you apart.

Nike Blazer

Seriously, you can’t go wrong with a Nike Blazer, whether high, low or mid, they’re a wardrobe staple that anyone can rock. With countless colourways available, there’s bound to be a pair for everyone!

Li-Ning Furious Rider Ace

For those who like to get a little weird with their sneakers, the Li-Ning Furious Rider Ace is definitely the GR for you! They sit a little higher on the price scale, but we can guarantee these will turn just as many heads as the latest hype release.

Nike Air Zoom Spiridon Cage 2

Collaborating with Stussy at the start of this year, Nike reintroduced the Air Zoom Spiridon. The formation of that dynamic duo had the sneakersphere searching high and low for a pair. After the initial hype died down, Team Swoosh handed out the Spiridon in an array of different GR colourways. They’re all heaters, and are pretty much readily available 24/7!

ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 360

A hectic hybrid by ASICS, the GEL-Kayano 5 360 merges the GEL-Kayano 5 and the GEL-Kayano 360. The end result is a very clean new model that’s currently available all over the world, in plenty of great colourways.

adidas ZX 10.000C

There’s no denying that adidas and the ZX 10.000 have been low-key killing it this year! From creating combos that go back to their roots, to dropping a bunch of spicy colabs, it’s an underrated classic that deserves a little more attention.
