Recap: adidas Skateboarding x FA Tokyo Soirée
The latest link-up between Fucking Awesome and adidas Skateboarding launched on the streets of Tokyo and Paris over the weekend, and Sneaker Freaker was there to capture the first of the three key global releases. Would-be shoppers were out in force early on Saturday morning hoping to cop a pair of the semi-deconstructed Stan Smiths.
On launch day in Tokyo we headed into the pop-up early for a quick tour where, unsurprisingly, the fit-out didn’t disappoint. The colour scheme mimicked that of the shoes, with blacked-out walls offset by the distinctive orange balloons that clutched to the ceiling. The highlight was the infectious tune being played alongside the animation on the multiple television screens – featuring none other than Jason Dill in an animated form. That combination of music and imagery was etched into our memory for the rest of the day.
As the 150-strong crowd waited in anxious anticipation for the 12pm drop, we had a quick chat to the first camper who informed us he’d set up the night prior. As a small token of appreciation, Fucking Awesome had people strolling along the busy footpath hooking up anyone wearing FA product with stickers. Our first shopper was then so eager to get his mitts on this orange joint, when the drop commenced he rushed to the door, burst straight into the pop-up, got his box signed by Mike Piscitelli and local personality Kunichi Nomura, had his snap taken, and then skipped off with an ear-to-ear grin in his stripes. The release was electric for many like him that copped, but not everyone was able to secure a pair. The supply sold out very quickly.
Following the initial excitement of the release, we returned to the space at 6pm where a herd of party goers had already laced up their coveted pairs and were ready to celebrate. The reaction was so strong, the initial beverage supply looked like it was over all too soon. Fortunately, it was hastily replenished.
The FA team ended the night by thanking family, friends and customers with some take-aways, this supply of posters and stickers quickly disappeared before the doors were closed for the final time.
For those that missed out, the final drop for this collaboration is on September 21 at FA’s Los Angeles location. But keep it dialled to Sneaker Freaker tomorrow, as we’ve got something exciting to tell you.
Special thanks to the adidas Skateboarding team for their hospitality last week. Until the next one… Kanpai!
