Monthly Mods: The Best Custom Sneakers From May

Welcome to  Sneaker Freaker’s Monthly Mods series, where we round up the best sneaker mockups,  custom creps, and AI-generated creations from the past few weeks. What we consider a ‘mod’ is any sneaker that has been altered from its original design, which could be as simple as painting something cool on an AF-1 or having an illustrator craft a mockup, or as involved as completely disassembling a sneaker to reassemble it with new, premium materials.

We said it last time, but this year has been epic for custom sneakers, with physical and artificial creations being pumped out at a wild pace. The month of May definitely provided, hitting us with an eclectic mix of creps and wild computer-generated art. Let’s get into it!

The usual Air Jordan 1s, Dunks and Air Force 1s were heavily featured this month, including some crisp anime-inspired builds, hybrids and material swaps. New Balance was another heavy hitter, and a special shoutout goes to @stanis.slav for their pointy-toe NB990 concept. Additionally, gradient dip-dying has also continued throughout this month, making for some eye-catching builds.
