Jordan Brand’s Trunner Franchise Never Looked So Good
signature line currently has , and even outside of the Air Jordan bloodline, brag a pretty sizeable catalogue. And though none of the entire dynasty’s models get as much air time as the high-flying or ultra-hype , that doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy.
Over the past few years, Jordan Brand have put plenty of investment into their non-retro offering through projects like the , , series and – returning in force this year – the franchise. Landing in the latter half of 2025 comes the next evolution in the long-running line, a model dubbed the – and it’s already seen plenty of zeal from sneakerheads the world over.

So, what is a Trunner?
Jordan Brand’s Trunner franchise has been around since the late 1990s, and was originally forged to meet the needs of athletes alongside the wider performance market outside of basketball. The defining aesthetic of the line is futurism – the majority of models would click smoothly into any contemporary cyber-sci-fi aesthetic – but the Trunner has also received its share of variations. In 2001 came the Trunner Bubble, which wore its 2000 Nike Air Presto inspiration on its sleeve. Unlike its muse, the Trunner Bubble has since become a lost part of sneaker history, kept alive only through obscure eBay listings and Japanese auction sites.
The Early Revivals
During the early 2010s, Jordan Brand decided to give the Trunner a real resurrection. They launched the Alpha, which also pulled its inspiration from early creations, but ended up looking like something a very sensible grandmother would wear while grocery shopping. Around this time, images emerged of a that had no name, but boasted plenty of machismo.
The next evolution of the Trunner franchise came between 2017 and the early 2020s, with the Trunner Ultimate, and . The LX had plenty of steam behind it, with and both orchestrating themselves super limited collaborations. Alongside a stack of GRs came a linkup – a of the high-top variation which received a launch partnership with celebrated rapper . But all this star power wasn’t enough to cut through the era’s . The Trunner NXT and Trunner Ultimate didn’t fare any better, though both were marketed as performance shoes and the former even debuted in a special colourway.

The New Era
This year will see Jordan Brand try to crack the Trunner code again – but this time, we think they’re on the money!
In early July, the Jumpman camp at Beaverton debuted the fresh-faced Trunner O/S, and it’s a completely different vibe from previously released models in the Trunner line. Pulling inspiration from across the Jordan catalogue – such as subtle details from the Jumpman Team 1 and -esque branding – the most striking difference is the O/S’s lack of sci-fi details. The upper is a tried and true, classic mix of mesh and leather, and has the capacity to rep many different personalities depending on the colourway you choose; premium lifestyle, vintage vibes, splashes of GORP and peak performance are all scattered throughout the model’s options.
A at the silhouette arrived via sneakersphere personality , who shared the blue and brown iteration’s sample – evoking serious ACG vibes with its metal aglets and two-tone laces. The next sneaky look came from , who revealed a model hosting a similar construction and a base layer with a striking, blush-pink tone. The third colourway, dubbed ‘Infrared’, was debuted by Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback when the athlete was en route to training camp ahead of the season.
Trunner Tactics
Jordan Brand are taking an interesting approach in their strategy for the Trunner O/S, positioning it solely as a lifestyle sneaker rather than hyping any performance elements. This plan reflects the fact there's now a sizeable younger generation of sneaker enthusiasts, who – having been born after Michael Jordan's 2003 retirement – feel no direct connection to the athlete or his legend. In positioning the Jordan Trunner O/S outside of the basketball sphere, Jordan Brand are free to choose any ambassador they wish to debut the fresh-faced sneaker.
The Jordan Trunner O/S hasn't been released yet, but we have a sneaking suspicion it’ll land with a bang.
