Jason Markk Presents: Sneaker Freaker 2017 Swap Meet Recap
Over 5000 local heads converged on the GLOBE warehouse for the bi-annual Sneaker Freaker Swap Meet on the weekend. With over 100 tables chock-a-block with everything from Red Octobers to beaters, rack after rack of vintage street wear and even a few neon signs, there was something to suit every budget and taste. And the best part is that the event is still free!
As usual, the day was a barometer of seasonal hype and brand awareness. Anyone rocking Off-White x Nikes or HyperAdapts attracted plenty of attention, while Yeezys and NMDS were as prolific and popular as ever. Jordan Brand was noticeably quiet this year.
With a new afternoon time slot and a well-stocked booze caravan, laces and wallets got pretty loose as the Swap Meet progressed. Luckily, the Jason Markk cleaning crew (in their new Dickies jumpsuits) were ready to freshen up any kicks that had taken a thrashing.
The arcade-style Yeezy claw machine was another innovation that left nearly everyone exasperated, but if you struck out at least you could disappear into the maze of Supreme Bogos and teenage Hilfigers.
To the lanky high schoolers who tried to sneak in early by posing as Sneaker Freaker writers, nice try early birds! Thanks to Levis, adidas, PUMA, New Era, Lacoste, VANS, DC and Doc Martens for chipping in to produce hundreds of gift bags for the youngins.A huge thanks to Clint and Phill from Jason Marrk. To everyone at Globe, especially Steve Douglas – your time and generosity is appreciated. All in all, this was an epic day of celebration for the local scene.
