Five Very Slept-On Sneakers From Underrated Brands
The sneaker scene isn’t just checks and stripes. There are plenty of comparatively smaller brands out there doing big things. Some are pushing the boundaries of shoe technology, while others have been elevating traditional craft techniques as their MO for years. Each available on GOAT, here are five silhouettes from brands separating themselves from the herd.
Li-Ning Way of Wade 9 Infinity ‘Caution’
Sneakerheads may have spotted this pair of WoWs doing the rounds on social media, showing off its futuristic BOA dial system. Wearing these Li-Nings is truly a sensory experience: stretchy sock fit, bright-AF orange colourway, featherlight soles, and, of course, the audible click-click-click of the aforementioned dials. The ‘Caution’ nickname makes a lot of sense – be careful when wearing these. What is safe, however, is checking out a pair from GOAT.
Hender Scheme Manual Industrial Products 10 ‘Air Jordan 4’
Japanese brand Hender Scheme are perhaps best known in the West for their artful recreations of iconic sneakers in full leather. This series, known as Manual Industrial Products (MIP for short), culminates in the MIP-10, which is an homage to the Air Jordan 4. Classic cobbler craft meets 1980s basketball shoes? Hender Scheme are the only ones pulling it off. While this pair comes in all black, the veg-tanned version only gets better with age.
BAIT x Dreamworks x Diadora S8000 ‘Kung Fu Panda’
There’s been a lot of talk this year about the ‘Panda’, particularly from another ubiquitous sneaker brand. The BAIT x Dreamworks x Diadora S8000 predates the moniker by a few years, as it was created in commemoration of the animated film Kung Fu Panda. This is as much a panda by nature as it is by name: stroke the hairy black and white uppers and appreciate the Italian craftsmanship, all while relishing the fact these are an edition of 300.
HOKA ONE ONE Tor Ultra Low GORE-TEX ‘Simply Taupe’
GORPcore and street fashion crossover crowds have been on HOKA ONE ONE for years. IYKYK vibes are evoked with the Tor Ultra Low GORE-TEX, a functionally funky and chunky trail shoe that’s probably seen more downtown grocery runs than gravel epics. Despite the model’s urban tendencies, its overbuilt upper, waterproof GORE-TEX lining and Vibram soles can handle just about any changing surface.
visvim FBT Lhamo-Folk ‘Sand’
The visvim FBT has been in production for over 20 years in a sizeable number of permutations. Among the best is the Lhamo-Folk, a configuration that equips the mid-cut moccasin-style shoe with a big suede ankle fringe, knotted streamers and hand-sewn bead detailing. These traditional components meet a contemporary sole for its modern comfort and sleek styling. Join the movement via GOAT.
