Beat All Conditions With the Converse Weatherised Chuck Collection
The timeless adage of ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather – only unsuitable clothing’ rings especially true when it comes to sneakers. With little more than rubber, foam and some fabric shielding feet from the four elements, protection is paramount when conditions turn unfavourable. Enter Converse, who come prepared with the Weatherised collection of reworked Chevron icons for all sorts of climes. Check out these Chucks!
Chuck Taylor All Terrain
The upgrades start with the Chuck Taylor All Terrain. This iteration begins the quintessential high-top Chuck silhouette before wrapping the canvas upper in water-resistant coatings. A waterproof inner lining keeps liquid out and warmth in, which can’t escape thanks to an extended ankle bootie. The elemental protection continues on the non-wicking polyester laces holding down D-ring hardware on the top eyelets, which can then be wrapped around the double ankle loop for adjustable ankle support. Underfoot, the rubber outsole is beefed up to a lugged variety for extra traction, and OrthoLite insoles ensure comfort while wearing such a rugged shoe.
Chuck 70 GORE-TEX
Meanwhile, the Chuck 70 GORE-TEX reprises its role as an all-weather contender while maintaining the classic Converse shape. New to this version is the decorative vamp stitching, extended midsole sidewalls and external heel counters and eyestays, adding another layer of protection. Of course, the ace up its sleeve is the GORE-TEX up its lining, promising that ‘Guaranteed To Keep You Dry’ confidence. So confident, in fact, that this model specs suede – traditionally not intended for damp conditions – for its ankle star patch!
Chuck Taylor All Star Lugged 2.0
For those looking for a Chuck that can perform infallibly in the coldest, wettest situations, turn to the Chuck Taylor All Star Lugged 2.0. One part sneaker and one part sabaton, this model is straight-up foot armour! It begins with a massive rubber lugged outsole grafted onto the bottoms, which is moulded to wide rubber sidewalls that engulf the original Chuck silhouette, resulting in overbuilt heel counters and toe caps. Extra material is also found up top, which adds some extra inches to the ankle shaft for protection. Speaking of which, the canvas uppers are waterproof, plus the tongue is joined to the sides with a gusset, forming an additional barrier against wet and cold. The finishing touch is soft fleece lining for comfortable warmth.
