Collector Spotlight: Lucas Blackman

Collector Spotlight: Lucas Blackman

Hailing from the land down under, Lucas Blackman is a collector that isn’t afraid to catch a stare! Well known for his eclectic collection and fits, this ‘weird shoe guy’ doesn’t play favourites with the big brands... he loves them all! And he also has some fun with his shoes, once dipping a pair of New Balance 1500CT4s in dye! Stay tuned to our Collector Spotlight series, and follow this initiative to hear from different community members about what’s in their rotation and more. Dig in!

Let’s start with why you dipped the 1500CT4 in dye.
Haha! I was bored and never really liked the simplicity of that colourway. They only cost me $40 and I had some spare green leather dye. Why not?

Tell us about your introduction to collecting sneakers.
Skateboarding spawned my desire to buy more shoes than I could ever need.

What are your Top 5 silhouettes?
Every kind of Nike Dunk, the UK-made New Balance 1500, Reebok’s Instapump Fury, Nike’s Air Footscape Woven, and let’s go with the ACRONYM x Nike Air Presto Mid.

Favourite sneaker in your collection?
I usually say the New Balance 1500 ‘Purple Devil’, but let’s mix it up. I always crack a smile wearing the Versace-inspired CNCPTS x Reebok Instapump Fury.

Your best come up?
Last year I unboxed a pair of ‘Shy Pink’ Dunk SBs. No pink laces though!

Favourite Sneaker Freaker Issue?
Issue 29 from December 2013. Not only is there a photo of me and my better half 10 pages in, but it was taken at the launch of the SF x PUMA BOG Black Beast at your old office. My #SneakerFreakerFam initiation. This was also one of the first shoes to steer me away from Dunks and into running silhouettes. Hot tip: you can still grab a copy of issue 29 on the SF webstore.
