The Best Women’s Sneaker Releases of 2024
The state of women’s sneaker releases is an ever-improving game, and with another year wrapped up, we can confidently say that things are continuing to progress. As brands embrace more inclusive sizing across all releases, women’s exclusives are actually becoming few and further between, yet dedicated women’s drops remain a welcome treat. This year, really led by example, not only by kicking us off with some stellar in-line women’s product but also through their collaborative ventures and by joining Sneaker Freaker to celebrate women in the sneakersphere through our ‘’ event series. and also got involved through the unisex ‘Rosewater’ 1906R – a homage to the sneaker collector’s ongoing hunt to score iconic women’s colourways past. Of course, the Swoosh also got in on the action, bringing back fan-fave colour-ups and even debuting a whole new female-focused model – the . With inclusivity and creativity at the forefront and minimal ‘shrink and pink’ moments to come, here are our favourite women’s releases of 2024.
ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 and GEL-1130 ‘Pink/Blue’
ASICS’ two-pack of tie-dye styles might have been the most controversial women’s release of the year, because the boys got MAD mad when they dropped these ones. The Japanese brand had already been killing it with more female-focused collaborations this year thanks to the likes of and , but they blessed us with these GR babies too as a reminder that female sneakerheads should be catered to all season round. Working atop both silhouettes, ASICS opted for cotton candy and sunset-inspired gradient hues with just the right amount of pink.
Action Bronson 1906R ‘Rosewater’
Action Bronson’s trio of landed at the start of the year, and although none of them were strictly women’s exclusives, the ‘Rosewater’ variation was inspired by them. Sporting a mix of milky white, bright pink, and green and blue shades, Bronsolino shot the campaign imagery alongside his wife and explained the colour choice by saying, ‘My love for the women’s colourway has no end. Women’s aerobics meets Me. I’ve been collecting sneakers for 37 years. If you a true sneaker head you know about coppin the women’s joints.’
ASICS GEL-FLAMMAE
ASICS absolutely killed it on the women’s front this year with their GR releases, colabs, and also on line. For this release, Kostadinov didn’t just line up a new colourway – instead, he created a whole new women’s model with the help of his womenswear designers, Laura and Deanna Fanning. The ASICS drew its inspiration from some of the brand’s archival netball product like the GEL-NETBURNER IGS II and dropped in two dark-toned colourways that featured pearlescent accents for a subtle touch of femininity, while retaining the style’s overall techy vibe.
Air Jordan 4 ‘Vivid Sulfur’
2024 wasn’t exactly short of women’s Air Jordan 4 releases, with the and also dropping over the course of the year. However, when it comes to more gender-neutral colourways, the women’s caught our attention. The super clean, predominantly white option boasted a hint of bright yellow in a call back to iconic Jordan colourways of the past. While there were definitely more hyped releases this year, the ‘Vivid Sulfur’ was for sure an underrated banger.
Nike Air Max Plus ‘Volt/Solar Red’
might get people talking, but we always appreciate when the Swoosh drops a hot, off-the-rack Nike TN. This year, they brought back the ‘Volt/Solar Red’ colourway from 2018 and – gradient hue pun incoming – it was fire. The mesh upper transitioned from a blazing red into an electric neon green, and the certified heater came finished with black accents for a strong and impactful finish.
Air Max Muse
Dropping just in time for the end of 2024 is a completely new Nike women’s silhouette, the Air Max Muse. This Y2K-inspired gem is the culmination of many vintage Air Models, combining and Sunder-style aesthetics with a sole unit similar to the newer Air Max Portal. So far, the model has only been seen in this silver colourway, which has been spotted on the likes of Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles and fashion stylist . Expect to see much more from the Muse next year!
Jordan Heir Series
While there isn’t usually a ton of differences between men’s and women’s lifestyle models, it’s essential that performance shoes are designed and built differently. Due to anatomical differences between men’s and women’s bodies, women may need different levels of support in certain styles, which is one reason why Jordan Brand have developed the new . Designed to change the game in women’s basketball, the series has been developed alongside some of the brand’s biggest stars to power up women’s play and alleviate common on-court injuries.
Air Max Sunder
Nike continued their nostalgia-fuelled run-out with the reintroduction of the , which returned in a women’s size run and made their comeback thanks to a women-dominant team. The Sunder is arguably one of the hardest retros we’ve seen this year, and it has continued to resonate with both male and female consumers, challenging the perception of what a women’s release should be. Given that there are some serious heater colourways in the Nike archive, we can’t wait to see how the team develop the Sunder Max more in 2025.
Naked CPH x adidas Tischtennis
Women’s sneaker store proceeded to flex their creative spirit as they teamed up with adidas on a and combo. For this collection, they embraced the more feminine aesthetic, as they decked the table tennis-inspired silhouette out with lacy uppers and an ivory-toned colour palette.
Daniëlle Cathari x New Balance 991v2
After being announced as the creative director of Kith’s womenswear line, designer Daniëlle Cathari kicked off the year by releasing a super-exclusive that was inspired by chocolate and pistachio pastries and matcha tones. The luxe suede number was released in very limited quantities at the Kith Women’s store in New York and was accompanied by a matching pastry in the store’s cafe. Sweet!
Nicole Hause x Nike SB Dunk
Rumours of SB Dunk collaborations started floating around the mid-year point, and the sneaker eventually kick-flipped onto shelves in December. Decked out with a host of signature style points and thematic accessories, Hause’s Dunk was unapologetically her, right down to the detachable chain and plaid print. Given how many male skaters have their own SB sig, it was also another major win for women in the sport. More in 2025, please!
Nina Chanel Abney x Air Jordan 3
is no stranger to Jordan Brand’s collaborative roster, but the AJ3 she dropped at the start of the year was a masterclass in personal branding. The artist combined a mixed material upper of canvas and suede in saturated shades of green, and finished the pair off with rope laces and a felted heel logo. Literal art!
